About the role:
The Accountant Management Accounting is accountable for provision of professional service to the City’s internal and external customers. This role ensures that the Annual Budget and Monthly Management Reports are produced in line with the requirements of the Local Government Act, Australian Accounting Standards and Council Policies.
The position requires strong technical skills and a well-developed ability to analyse and present complex financial data. It also ensures that budget adjustments are collected and reconciled monthly and presented to Council for adoption.
The position is primarily responsible for the maintenance of accurate and appropriate management accounting records and system integrity ensuring compliance with Council policies, procedures and statutory requirements. In addition, this position actively participates in the delivery of special projects as well as contributes to the Business Unit’s corporate planning activities.
We currently have an opportunity available to join our team on a fixed term full time basis until 30 June 2026.
Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Business Partnering, including meeting with Business Unit managers and executive to address finance process matters, Budgeting requirements and financial analysis.
- Budget Vs Actuals analysis and reporting
- Month End Reporting – preparation of financial reporting and commentary at a high level appropriate for both Executive Management and Council.
- Training and supporting business units in relevant financial matters.
- Preparation of Operational budgets for Annual Budget process and for regular Budget Reviews

The successful candidate will have the following:
- Bachelor Degree in Business or Commerce with an accounting major
- CPA/CA qualification
- Experience within an accounting environment with exposure to management reporting
- Intermediate MS Office proficiency
- A satisfactory National Police Certificate

The salary for this position will be from $94,386.53 - $112,499.22 per annum, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
