The Senior Policy Officer manages strategic and operational policies and projects to meet organisational objectives. The role is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of best practice policies, programs, projects, and activities for the Ministry of Health, public health organisations, and related government agencies.

Crown Clerk 9/10, starting salary from $129,464 - $142,665 plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 35-hour work week.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage, develop, plan, evaluate and deliver complex projects and operational policy in relation to key public health strategies and programs including tobacco control, compliance and enforcement
  • Prepare high quality written reports, presentations, briefs, correspondence, media responses and cabinet documents as required.
  • Manage the project cycle, including developing project plans, identifying and coordinating resources, managing budgets, and meeting reporting requirements to ensure project outcomes are achieved on time, on budget, to quality standards and within agreed scope
  • Explore and evaluate new policy approaches, including undertaking cost-benefit analyses and impact assessment, in order to provide sound strategic advice to achieve health objectives.
  • Analyse and report on key data and performance information to support effective and policy and program settings.
  • Support the Manager and Tobacco Enforcement Unit in effective compliance with NSW Health legislative and regulatory frameworks.
  • Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships and effectively consult, communicate and negotiate to ensure required outcomes are delivered.
  • Completing projects within agreed timeframes and performance standards while also managing a fluctuating workload of other tasks.
  • Maintaining accurate knowledge of the diverse and complex policy framework within the Ministry of Health, NSW Health Service and related agencies in relation to tobacco compliance and enforcement, and broader tobacco control.
  • Maintaining a NSW Health-wide perspective when researching and developing policy advice on tobacco compliance and enforcement policy and reform.
