This vital role as a Communications Technical Services Officer (CTSO Level 1) is about being able to provide expert technical support for the maintenance and installation of FRV and CFA’s communications systems. You will play a key role in fault resolution, system upgrades, and ensuring functionality during emergency operations, including wildfire suppression.

Your everyday will involve collaborating with technical teams, where you will assist with major projects, and contribute to testing and evaluating new technologies to improve critical infrastructure.

About the Role
The purpose of the permanent Communications Technical Services Officer (CTSO Level 1) is to provide technical support for the ongoing maintenance and installation of communications infrastructure . Specialist communications knowledge and expertise is applied to ensure that FRV and CFA’s communications systems are deployed and maintained in a manner that supports emergency response operations.
This may require direct involvement at emergency incident locations, including being on the fireground during wildfire suppression activities.
Duties and Accountabilities:
Attend fault rectification jobs and undertake diagnosis and rectification to meet defined service standards
Undertake work on FRV and CFA Communications systems which may include microwave, satellite, telephone, data and radio systems
Complete job cards and provide verbal and/or written technical reports as required
Recognise need to seek input or advice from more experienced technical officers or management to ensure the rectification of complex faults or to identify
Liaise cooperatively with Help Desk and other CTSO staff to ensure a timely and appropriate response to the servicing of FRV and CFA’s communications systems
Work with other technical service providers, internal and external to FRV, to assist and support communications installations and maintenance
Undertake defined upgrade projects, including product replacement and testing to ensure functionality and meet defined service standards
Under direction of the assigned Project Manager, provide support and assistance on major installation and upgrade projects
Monitor communications technology functionality and identify and recommend to management, opportunities to improve or replace existing infrastructure
What You Will Need To Succeed
To be successful in this position, you will have:
AQF4 or Technician Certificate plus relevant industry experience OR
AQF5 or Diploma or Associate Diploma or Certificate of Technology
Ability to obtain ACA licence for cabling (mandatory)
Able to satisfy the requirements for National Public Safety training package
Safety at an Incident Scene (PUAOHS 002A) (mandatory)
Current drivers licence. (mandatory) as frequent travel within Victoria is essential
Knowledge and understanding of service standards and requirements (mandatory)
Sound written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to write documents in relation to technical investigations or projects (mandatory)
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines for the delivery of project outputs (mandatory)
Competency in the use of word processing and spreadsheet applications (mandatory)
Demonstrated skills in fault diagnosis, service restoration in communications systems and equipment (desirable)
Skills in the development and/or installation and commissioning of communications technologies (desirable)
Demonstrated self-starter and ability to independently apply technical knowledge and skills (highly desirable)
