On behalf of my clients who operate in the Australian Defence sector, I am currently looking for an experienced Requirements Engineer who holds NV1 or above clearance.

The role is being offered as an initial 12 month day rate contract which will be based in Melbourne.

As the Requirements Engineer you will play a key part in delivering engineering services across requirements development, systems integration, verification and validation (V&V), and technical performance management.

Key Responsibilities include:

Conduct requirements analysis and support the development of a comprehensive requirements set.

Manage requirements throughout the system lifecycle, ensuring traceability and alignment with system design.

Maintain linkages between system design, requirements, and verification artefacts.

Capture and manage V&V outcomes against the approved requirements set.

Support the Engineering team in certification planning and evidence gathering.

Plan and deliver engineering services in line with regulatory compliance frameworks.

Manage engineering resources and contribute to successful project outcomes.

Review contract deliverables to ensure consistency, compliance, and quality.

Essential Criteria

Demonstrated experience in the delivery of systems engineering service gained within the Australian Defence sector.

Proficient practitioner in the use of DOORS for requirements management.

Proven experience in:

Requirements development and lifecycle management.

Verification Cross Reference Matrix (VCRM) development and maintenance.

V&V plan and procedure development.

Review of V&V artefacts to ensure test cases validate project requirements.

Preparation of design documentation and specialist engineering reports.

Development of engineering plans, procedures, and compliance reports.

Performing hazard analyses and producing safety reports.

Supporting certification processes.

Preparing and reviewing contract documentation, plans, and reports.

NV1 or above clearance.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

Tertiary qualifications in engineering or a relevant discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Networking).

A minimum of 8 years’ relevant industry experience in systems engineering or requirements engineering.

Ability to work in accordance with Defence standards, regulations, and compliance frameworks.

Highly Desirable Experience

Prior experience working on Defence programs, particularly involving complex integration activities.

Experience in electrical engineering and systems integration, including integration on maritime platforms.

Familiarity with RF environments and wireless communications in contested or electronic warfare domains.

Experience in digital communication protocols and signal conversion techniques.

Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies and process optimisation.

Experience with US Export Controls, including:

Technical Assistance Agreements (TAA)

Third-Party Retransfer Authorisations

Active or eligible for Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) Security Clearance

Ability to comply with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements.
