The opportunity
We’re seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer to join our team until February 2026, supporting our team in protecting, promoting and improving public health across Port Stephens.
Your role is vital in developing Environmental Health Programs and providing Environmental Health advice to both internal and external stakeholders, the community, and Government agencies.
With a balance of being in the office and out in the field, you will leverage your experience and knowledge of key policies and legislation to fulfil our Environmental Health outcomes, programs, and projects.
This is a great opportunity for the secondment of an experienced Environmental Health Officer looking to gain inter-council experience, or experience in Local Government.
This is a contract opportunity – working full-time 35 hours / week + access to a flexible working arrangement
Base Salary Range: $87,392 - $102,814 pa based on 35 hours / week + 12% superannuation + $18,619.19 motor vehicle allowance + $2,312 retention allowance
You will be working from PSC Administration Building, Raymond Terrace

Completion of application assessments covering key functional areas (OSMS, Business premises, Regulated Systems, Caravan Parks)
Investigation of pollution, unauthorised, and illegal activities, taken through to outcomes in accordance with adopted policies and statutory provisions
Provide key customer service to Elected Council, internal Council officers, rate payers, Environmental Health industry, consultants, residents and Government/Non-Government agencies

Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or other relevant qualifications and/or experience
Demonstrated knowledge of Environmental Health and Local Government legislation, including the Food Act, Public Health Act, Local Government Act, Protection of the Environment Operations Act, Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Contaminated Land Management Act, and related subordinate legislation
