The Role
Electromagnetic Warfare Intelligence System (EWIS) Maritime Systems Project Office (M-SPO) is seeking a highly professional, motivated and experienced APS 6 ICT Security Specialist to perform the role of Information Systems Security Manager (ISSM).The ISSM enhances and supports the security posture of the EWIS M-SPO information systems.
This role involves continuous monitoring, governance, and management of measures to protect information and ensure compliance with regulations. This includes defining, implementing, and monitoring security policies, assessing risks, and responding to security incidents. The ISSM oversees data transfers, develops and implements information security policies. They coordinate periodic testing and inspections of information systems, documenting findings and take remedial actions as needed.
The ISSM will be accountable for conducting security risk assessments and providing advice and guidance on the application and operation of procedural security controls to achieve outcomes that support and contribute to the EWIS M-SPO’s mission to acquire and sustain effective Electromagnetic Warfare (EW) capability for Australia’s security.
Collaboration with a cross-functional team, acting as a point of contact for information and cyber security enquiries and overseeing best practices, makes this role essential for maintaining the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of the organisations information systems. This position is part of the team rostered to provide after hours on call responses and will involve occasional interstate travel.
The successful candidate may be able to commence the role with a Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) security clearance however; will require the ability to obtain and hold a Positive Vetting (PV) security clearance.

EWIS M-SPO is widely dispersed across Australia with this position based at Edinburgh, SA or Henderson, WA. The successful applicant will participate in an integrated team, including APS, military and contractor staff, to ensure the supported EW capabilities are delivered to the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and supported in accordance with operational and compliance requirements, budget, and service agreements. Key attributes, knowledge and experience we are looking for:
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Australian ISM, DSPF and PSPF frameworks;
- A working knowledge of networks, systems and/or data links used across Defence;
- Experience with security risk management and incident response planning, including risk identification as related to Defence technologies;
- Experience developing and implementing security frameworks, policies and procedures aligned with business needs and compliance standards;
- Demonstrated experience working diverse teams in a complex environment to deliver ICT strategic roadmap improvements across the Operational Technology and Information communications Technology space;
- Experience developing and delivering security awareness and training initiatives;
- Excellent communication and customer engagement skills;
- Effective problem solving and deductive reasoning skills;
- High-level organisational skills, self-drive and initiative to achieve tasks and business objectives.
