About this position

Join a dynamic and forward-thinking local government team as a Senior Financial Accountant.

Reporting to the Coordinator Finance, you will lead the City’s financial reporting function, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, financial regulations and internal policies. This is a pivotal role contributing to the financial health and strategic direction of the organisation.

In this role, you will

Lead the preparation of annual financial reports and audit documentation

Manage internal and external audit processes

Deliver accurate monthly financial reports for Council meetings

Oversee investment reporting and cash flow management

Provide expert advice on GST and taxation matters

Establish and manage loan facilities and repayments

Ensure integrity and efficiency of financial systems, including Technology One

Contribute to financial policy development and staff training

What we are looking for

To be successful, you must have

Extensive experience in financial accounting, with strong financial management and reporting skills

Proven leadership and team development skills

Strong analytical and strategic problem-solving abilities to resolve complex financial challenges

Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement skills

Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines

Essential requirements

Current Police Clearance (less than three months old) Please note: This is not essential to apply for the role but will be required at a later stage as it is an appointment condition.

Driver’s licence

Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related field

Qualification from a professional accounting body (CA or CPA)
