Business Analyst is responsible for analysing complex business processes, defining business requirements and design solutions that support efficient business operations in line with organisational strategies and operational plans. An important part of the role is to facilitate and apply customer-centric service design to enhance service outcomes for political participants.

Key accountabilities

• Build collaborative stakeholder relationships to understand strategic objectives and support the achievement of business outcomes.
• Maintain relationships with key stakeholders to gain and maintain business knowledge and to facilitate scoping and setting of business priorities.
• Plan and facilitate discovery workshops and stakeholder interviews to elicit, analyse, and documenting both business and technical requirements
• Translate business requirements into functional design specifications using best practice business analysis methodologies.
• Identify and communicate opportunities that create business value and improve customer experience, using process/screen flows and wireframes to drive service design.
• Provide accurate advice on technical issues and solutions to assist with specifying and documenting requirements for new and existing solutions.
• Review policy instruments and ensure business operations and systems are compliant with relevant legislation.
• Monitor and report on potential risks and issues and propose viable solutions.
• Manage ongoing communication with Application Development Teams to ensure that business needs are clearly understood and met by the systems under development.
• Review and contribute to project documentation including test scenarios and test case development, ensuring traceability and coverage against business requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Business Analysis Community of Practice.

• Providing timely analysis in a complex systems environment with a high degree of bespoke development and system interfaces, where deadlines are immovable.
• Balancing business requirements, priorities and resources, setting realistic expectations and ensuring business needs can be met.
• Translating technical and complex information into meaningful insights and recommendations to effectively influence a diverse range of key stakeholders with varying expectations.
• Driving the application of customer-centred design and innovative approaches to all solution design initiatives.

Skills and experience

• Tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience
• Extensive experience (10 year+) working in complex business system environments, implementing business process or system change and improvements
• Experience in design, user experience or equivalent and/or strong demonstrated service design experience
• Demonstrated visualisation techniques such as journey mapping, storytelling and service mapping
• Proven systems analysis skills using Agile methodologies
• Experience in collaborating with and influencing stakeholders to manage expectations and reach agreement amongst the stakeholders
• Ability to understand and apply regulatory instruments based on sound knowledge of relevant legislation and the legislative framework, government policies and reforms, and current public sector trends.
