We're working with one of Australia's leading telcos, a household name with millions of customers and petabytes of data - and they're in the thick of a full data platform transformation.

They've just lost a senior architect to an internal promotion (always a good sign), and now we need someone experienced to step in, own the architecture, and help steer the ship as they modernise at scale.

The Situation

The current architect has stepped into an acting director role, and they need someone senior to take the reins.

This isn't a greenfield role - but it's not legacy firefighting either. You'll be handed over a mix of in-flight initiatives and platform overhauls, including:

Replacing an end-of-life MDM platform with Ataccama

Unifying fragmented data platforms (Hadoop, Teradata, Oracle) into Azure Databricks and GCP

Supporting critical use cases across AI, BI, and self-service analytics

What You'll Do

Own the architecture of modern data pipelines, governance, and management

Lead platform migration strategy and execution

Partner with the Data Office and engineering squads to drive delivery

Translate architecture into action - and help the business understand why it matters

Current Tech Stack Includes:

Azure Databricks (primary platform - it's big here)

GCP for network data workloads

Ataccama for MDM

Integration with AWS (app layer)

Modernising off Oracle, SQL Server, Sybase, Hadoop, Teradata

🎯 What You Bring:

Deep experience architecting enterprise data platforms

Hands-on knowledge of cloud migration - you've moved big stuff before

Experience acrsoss MDM or data governance would be huge advantage

Can operate as a true senior - we're not looking to hand-hold here

Comfortable bridging business needs with technical design

The Details:

Location: Sydney-based, hybrid (flexible)

Contract: 9 months Initiially (extension or perm potential depending on internal movement)

Rate: $1,200.00 - $1,400.00 per day

Interview Process: 2 stages (no tech test, just smart conversations)
