Mechanical Engineering Technician: The Mechanical Engineering Technician will be responsible for installing, inspecting, testing, calibrating, maintaining, and repairing mechanical systems and equipment used in precast concrete plants, window and frame production plants, steel framing operations, and on-site construction activities. The technician will work closely with engineers, plant operators, and production supervisors to ensure maximum operational efficiency, safety, and compliance with Australian Standards.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Perform scheduled preventative and corrective maintenance, testing, calibration, and inspection of mechanical systems and components across multiple facilities including:
Batching plants – calibrate weighing systems, inspect and maintain motors, drive belts, and mixing units.
Concrete mixers and cement silos – conduct routine cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of mechanical drives, filters, and valves.
Production equipment – maintain and service machinery such as double mitre saws, copy routers, end milling machines, CNC cutting equipment, aluminium crimping tools, punching machines, and steel roll-forming systems.
Material handling equipment – inspect and maintain forklifts, telehandlers, overhead gantry cranes, straddle carConcrete riers, and trailer trolleys including hydraulics, wheels, braking systems, and lifting mechanisms.
Construction-related mechanical tools – service and repair vibrators, power trowels, steam curing systems, heating chambers, and glass suction lifters.
Identify and diagnose faults in mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using technical drawings, test equipment, and industry procedures.
Monitor and maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, inspection reports, and equipment history for compliance and audit readiness.
Assist engineers and plant supervisors with the installation, assembly, modification, and commissioning of new mechanical equipment.
Conduct quality assurance checks and ensure all mechanical systems comply with relevant safety codes, industry regulations, and WHS (Work Health and Safety) standards.
Liaise with equipment manufacturers and suppliers to coordinate technical support and sourcing of replacement parts.
Participate in plant upgrades, modifications, and performance improvement initiatives, including recommending design changes and mechanical solutions to increase operational efficiency.
