Position Overview: We are looking for an experienced Motor Mechanic (General) to maintain, test, and repair petrol/diesel engines and mechanical components of lightweight motor vehicles, including transmissions, suspension, steering, and brakes. This role is critical to ensuring our clients’ vehicles operate safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Detect and diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in engines and vehicle parts
Dismantle and remove engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms, and other components, and inspect parts for defects
Repair and replace worn or defective parts, reassembling components with reference to service manuals
Perform scheduled maintenance services, such as oil changes, lubrications, and engine tune-ups, to ensure compliance with pollution regulations and optimal vehicle performance
Test and adjust mechanical parts post-repair for proper performance
Use diagnostic tools and computers to diagnose and test vehicle components
Issue roadworthiness certificates or detail required repairs, where applicable
Respond to vehicle breakdown service calls, as needed
Essential Requirements:
AQF Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Light Vehicle) with at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV, or at least three years of relevant experience in lieu of formal qualifications
Minimum of 3 years of full-time work experience as a Motor Mechanic (General)
Registration or licensing may be required (e.g., trade certificate or state-specific licensing)
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent work ethic and commitment to high standards of customer service
Desirable:
Experience with multi-brand light vehicles
Familiarity with automotive diagnostic software
Australian work experience or knowledge of Australian vehicle standards
