The newly formed City and Environment Directorate is seeking to fill the position of Senior Director, Sustainable Building Transitions - Loose Fill Asbestos Coordination.
Located within the Development and Implementation Branch, the business unit works to implement the Government’s vision to deliver sustainable and climate-ready buildings including Loose Fill Asbestos Coordination.
The Loose Fill Asbestos Coordination (LFAC) team is responsible for managing the Government’s response to loose fill asbestos insulation in ACT homes. It meets the Government’s objective to eradicate loose fill asbestos insulation from the Canberra community to ensure community safety. This includes oversight, management and delivery of work to:
- Maintain the Affected Residential Premises Register,
- Progress the ongoing scheme and buyback program,
- Demolish and rebuild complex properties,
- Sell demolished and remediated properties,
- Report under the Dangerous Substances Act 2004.
The Senior Director will lead the small LFAC team to facilitate delivery of the Loose Fill Asbestos Insulation Eradication Scheme. It will coordinate activities within the Canberra community related to Governments ongoing legislative, policy or legacy commitments in addressing the risks and impacts from loose fill asbestos insulation.
This senior leader will also contribute to other activities needed to deliver sustainable and climate-ready buildings.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:
- The position occupant is required to not have any direct conflict of interest relating to loose fill asbestos insulation in ACT homes.

Highly Desirable:
- Tertiary qualifications and / or extensive demonstrated experience in Human Services, Project Management, or Program Governance.
Note: This is a temporary position available 2 October 2025 until 20 June 2027. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. A merit pool will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future similar vacancies. The ACT Government offers flexible working arrangements including working from home where appropriate. This position is located in a workplace designated for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
