About Community Housing Canberra

Community Housing Canberra (CHC) is the ACT’s largest provider of affordable and social housing. Over the past 25 years, CHC have undertaken an impressive portfolio of property developments, allowing them to be financially independent, and self-fund the delivery of additional community housing supply.

CHC are undergoing a period of strategic change and growth in their assets, culture and workforce. Their current property portfolio, comprising over 800 dwellings, is projected to grow to over 1,000 dwellings in the next three years. This will see them transition from being a local community provider to managing larger-scale, multi-unit developments with a focus on expanding partnerships and competing in the private market.

The Opportunity

The Director of Assets and Infrastructure is a newly established senior leadership role responsible for delivering a step change in CHC’s approach to strategic asset management and portfolio planning. You will lead the uplift of systems, data and practices to embed long-term asset lifecycle management into CHC’s growing property portfolio, including both its current dwellings and planned future developments.

  • Make a tangible and lasting impact on Canberra’s community housing sector
  • Lead CHC through an organisational uplift and cultural shift to operate at scale
  • Inspire a high performing culture amongst the Asset Team, providing leadership and mentoring to a team of six staff
  • Utilise strong decision-making power to shape the future of the assets and infrastructure business line

  • Establish an end-to-end lifecycle management framework that supports preventative, planned and cyclic maintenance
  • Provide leadership to the Asset team, including day-to-day supervision of the Asset Manager
  • Data and risk management, ensuring the use of high-quality asset data to support strategic decision-making
  • Provide capital project and divestment advice including recommendations on upgrades, decanting and divestment strategies
  • Provide expert reporting and advice to the Executive Team, contributing to strategic planning processes, financial, development and risk management activities
  • Oversee governance and compliance with regulatory obligations and support audit readiness

The Ideal Person

To be successful in this role, you will have proven leadership experience in asset and infrastructure management across large-scale and complex housing or property portfolios. Your background will include portfolio investment decision-making and the management of long-term assets through their full lifecycle.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated success in uplifting asset systems, data quality, and strategic maintenance frameworks
  • Familiarity with property condition assessments, capital works planning and contract management
  • Experience leading high-performing operational teams through change and service improvement
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to provide high-quality reporting to executive and governance audiences
