About the role

First Sheds is seeking an experienced and skilled Excavator Operator/Earthworks Foreman to join our dynamic team in Canberra, ACT. This is a full-time position that will play a crucial role in overseeing and executing essential earthworks operations for our construction projects.

What you'll be doing

Operating heavy machinery, including bobcats and excavators, to perform site preparation, trenching, and other earthmoving tasks

Supervising and coordinating the work of labourers and plant operators to ensure efficient and safe completion of earthworks

Developing and implementing site-specific work plans and procedures to optimise productivity and minimise disruption

Monitoring site conditions, identifying potential issues, and recommending solutions to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met

Maintaining detailed records of equipment usage, material consumption, and project progress

Fostering a positive, collaborative, and safety-focused work environment

What we're looking for

Minimum 5 years of experience as an Excavator Operator or Earthworks Foreman in the construction industry

Comprehensive knowledge of earthmoving equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures

Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate and lead a team

Familiarity with relevant construction regulations and safety standards

Relevant industry certifications or licences (white card, asbestos card, excavator ticket, etc)
