Ever Thought About a Career in Building Compliance? You Might Be Exactly Who We're Looking For.
Building / Health Compliance Officer
Permanent Full Time | $84,200 – $97,100 + 12% Super + up to 15% matched
Based in Armadale | Flexible Work + 9-day fortnight | New EA = Locked-in pay rises July 2026
- You notice when things aren’t quite right.
- You enjoy helping people fix problems.
- You’d rather be out and about than stuck behind a desk.
If this sounds like you even if you’ve never worked in local government we’d love to hear from you.
We’re looking for someone with common sense, confidence, and curiosity who wants to make our City safer, fairer and better built.
What You'll Do
You’ll be our eyes and ears on the ground. Your job is to help people get things right when it comes to property, safety, and standards.
Each day, you’ll be:
- Visiting homes, properties and job sites to check that things are being built and maintained properly
- Talking with builders, residents or owners about how to fix problems or follow the rules
- Investigating concerns like unauthorised works, unsafe conditions, or messy properties
- Writing reports and helping the team follow up or take action if needed
You’ll be backed by a supportive Senior Officer and a close-knit team who know the ropes and are happy to show you how it's done.
What You’ll Bring
You don’t need to have all the answers on day one — we’ll support you to build your knowledge. But to hit the ground running, you’ll bring:
- Some understanding of how things should be built safely and properly (maybe from the building industry, trades, or compliance work)
- A working knowledge of basic safety and site practices
- Confidence in talking to people, even when the conversation’s tough
- Experience investigating issues, checking details and following up
- Good written skills — you can take notes, write reports, and explain things clearly
- Solid customer service skills, especially with people from all walks of life
- Ability to stay calm under pressure, juggle competing tasks and meet deadlines
- Comfortable with basic admin and using systems to record your work
- A current C Class Driver’s Licence
- Ability to obtain a National Police Certificate
Why This Role Might Be Your Next Big Step
- It’s practical. You’re out in the community, not stuck behind a desk.
- It’s purposeful. Your work has a visible impact—helping people and protecting places.
- It’s people-focused. You use your voice, not just a checklist.
- It’s flexible. 9-day fortnight or 19-day month + options to work remotely where possible.
- It’s backed by real support. A great team and strong leadership that values your growth.
Perks and Benefits
- Free gym + pool + sauna membership at Armadale Fitness & Aquatic Centre
- Up to 15% employer super (we’ll match what you contribute)
- Study support if you want to build your career further
- Novated lease options
- Additional days off + 17.5% annual leave loading
- Employee Assistance Program (confidential support for life or work)
