The ideal candidate brings over 25 years of experience across public and private sectors and thrives in complex environments involving legacy system integration, cloud adoption, and data governance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of data lakes, staging layers, and consolidated data stores.
  • Define and implement data governance, metadata management, and standardisation practices.

  • ETL Development & Data Migration

  • Build and maintain robust ETL frameworks using SSIS, Azure Data Factory, and SQL.
  • Perform complex data mapping, cleansing, and transformation across on-premise and cloud environments.
  • Manage delta and full load processes to support agile software development and testing.

  • Analytics Enablement

  • Support and develop Qlik Sense applications for business intelligence and geo-analytics.

  • Integrate external data sources (e.g., ABS Census, AGIS, SAP) into analytics platforms.

  • Systems Integration

  • Collaborate with business analysts and developers to reverse engineer and integrate legacy systems.
  • Manage data flows between SQL databases, Azure resources, APIs, and Microsoft Dynamics 365 platforms.

  • Project Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Lead data-focused workstreams within cross-functional teams using DevOps and Agile practices.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external vendors to align data architecture with enterprise objectives.
  • Support UAT, production release planning, and post-implementation troubleshooting.

Key Skills and Experience Required:

  • Minimum 25 years' experience in IT, with at least 15+ years in data architecture and migration.
  • Strong expertise in Microsoft Azure, Dynamics 365, Azure Data Factory, SQL Server, and SSIS.
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale data migration projects across government and enterprise sectors.
  • Deep understanding of data modelling, ETL processes, data warehousing, and enterprise reporting.
  • Experience in Qlik Sense, Qlik Geo-Analytics, and Qlik NPrinting for self-service BI and spatial analytics.
  • Skilled in reverse engineering legacy systems, data cleansing, and standardisation for analytics readiness.
  • Demonstrated capability in DevOps, Visual Studio, and pipeline automation.
  • Experience with geospatial data integration and use of tools such as Google Geocoding API, AGIS, and ABS datasets.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Applied Science in Computing (QUT, Brisbane) or equivalent tertiary qualification.
  • Experience working with federal or state government departments.
  • Recognition through industry or internal awards for excellence or innovation in IT.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint, SAP, and other ERP/CRM systems is a plus.

Attributes for Success:

  • Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail.
  • Ability to simplify complex data structures for business stakeholders.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and adaptability in fast-paced environments.
  • Effective communication, mentoring, and documentation skills.
