Data has been identified as fundamental for the organisation undergoing an organisation-wide digital transformation, with data being a core component of the solution as they transition from a spreadsheets to Databricks

You will be joining the small, cohesive and collaborative data architecture and engineering. The team is made up of a Director, two EL1s and an APS6 that all have a great combination of enterprise and technical knowledge.

The Opportunity

A significant data platform uplift is underway, moving from spreadsheets and ad hoc Azure-based processes to a structured, scalable Databricks environment. With foundations already laid, this role offers the chance to shape the end-to-end pipeline design, prepare datasets for ingestion, and build reusable data assets to support future analytics and ML use cases

Key elements of the opportunity include:

• Several end to end data transformation projects with clear roadmaps
• Azure to Databricks migration. The Databricks platform is live with limited data already loaded
• Transform ~20 datasets by assessing their current state and progressively moving them through the Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers
• Get involved in early-stage ML projects (e.g. fraud detection, predictive analytics)

The Role

This is a hands-on data engineering position focused on delivery, stability, and uplift.

You’ll support both the day-to-day operation of the existing Azure platform and the longer-term migration into Databricks.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing, building, and maintaining ETL pipelines using T-SQL and Azure tools
• Preparing data assets through Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Green layers in Databricks
• Ensuring high data quality, security, and governance alignment
• Translating business needs into reliable technical solutions
• Supporting broader data strategy and platform documentation
• Contributing to improved analytics, early-stage ML, and internal data capability uplift

The Ideal Person

This role will suit a practical, reliable professional who enjoys solving problems, working in a collaborative environment, and seeing their work make a difference. Someone who’s steady, thoughtful, and keen to contribute to a well-run team delivering a major uplift.

You’ll bring:

• Strong SQL skills (T-SQL preferred), with experience building and optimising ETL pipelines
• A hands-on approach and the ability to translate business needs into robust technical solutions
• A collaborative mindset, with clear communication and a focus on shared success
• Desirable: experience with Azure tools (Data Factory, SQL DB, DevOps)
• Bonus: exposure to Databricks, Python, PowerShell, R, or data modelling

Salary / Rate

• $100k - $110k + 15.4% Super
• 12 month initial non-ongoing with view to permanency for the right person or a s26 transfer for an existing APS employee
