What you'll do:
As a Payroll Officer - Part-time based in Sydney CBD, you will be entrusted with managing comprehensive payroll operations for a large employee base within a leading private wealth management firm. Your day-to-day activities will involve processing monthly payroll cycles from start to finish, administering complex payment scenarios such as incentives or parental leave, and ensuring compliance with all statutory obligations. You will work collaboratively within a dynamic Finance team under the supervision of both the Senior Finance Manager and Payroll Manager. Your ability to communicate effectively will be essential as you respond to employee queries and liaise with various stakeholders. In addition to core payroll duties, you will have the opportunity to participate in process improvement projects that enhance operational efficiency. Your proactive approach will see you supporting audit requirements during busy periods while always striving for accuracy in every task undertaken. - Process end-to-end monthly payroll for approximately 420 employees with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring all payments are accurate and on time.
- Manage onboarding and offboarding processes by handling new starters and terminations efficiently, maintaining up-to-date records at all times.
- Administer incentive payments, adjustments, parental leave calculations, redundancies, superannuation contributions, and ad-hoc payments as required.
- Liaise closely with internal teams and external partners to resolve payroll queries promptly and provide clear guidance and support to employees regarding their pay.
- Prepare month-end reports, process journals, and complete balance sheet reconciliations for all payroll-related accounts including annual leave, long service leave, year-to-date payroll figures, and superannuation.
- Undertake payroll tax preparation and lodgement duties while collaborating with the Finance team to reconcile expat payrolls accurately.
- Assist with process improvement initiatives and automation projects aimed at enhancing the overall efficiency of the Payroll function.
- Support audit requests by providing accurate information during peak periods and assist with ad-hoc reporting as needed.
- Contribute positively to a culture of continuous improvement by sharing ideas for streamlining processes within the Finance team.
What you bring:
- A minimum of three to five years' experience in a similar Payroll Officer position within a medium-to-large organisation is essential for this role.
- Previous exposure to financial services environments is highly regarded as it provides valuable context for understanding industry-specific requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required; experience with ADP or Workday systems would be advantageous but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement while upholding the highest standards of integrity and ethics in all aspects of your work.
- A proven track record as a dependable team player who brings a positive attitude and willingness to support colleagues whenever needed.
- Resourcefulness combined with an eagerness for continuous improvement ensures you can adapt quickly when faced with new challenges or changes in processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills enable you to explain complex payroll matters clearly to both internal stakeholders and external partners.
