About Us

Hurunui Dairies P/L is a family run, pasture-based dairy operation located near Mount Gambier, in the South East of South Australia. We run a once-a-year calving system of 800 cows plus young stock raised on farm. Our business focuses on efficient, sustainable dairy production with a strong emphasis on simple, highly productive systems, pasture management and animal husbandry.

About the Role

We are seeking a full-time Leading Dairy Farm Hand to join our team. This is a hands-on role requiring someone reliable, physically fit, and capable of working independently—particularly during early morning starts and in a one-person operated 50-bale rotary milking shed.

Key Responsibilities:

Milking cows in a 50-bale rotary shed (one-person operation)

Monitoring herd health, attending to issues promptly

Working well in a team, communicating clearly with colleagues and manager

Operating tractors and farm machinery for feeding out, mowing etc.

General farm and infrastructure maintenance, fencing, and cleaning

Following biosecurity, hygiene, and safety protocols

Helping with calves as part of the seasonal workload

Skills and Experience Required:

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in commercial dairy farming

Experience with pasture-based dairy systems preferred

Competence in operating and maintaining farm machinery

Strong animal husbandry knowledge and attention to animal welfare

High level of reliability, self-motivation, and ability to work independently, particularly in a one-person milking shed

Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and peak seasonal hours

Valid driver’s license

Remuneration:

A package of $70,000 to $90,000 per annum will be offered, depending on experience and skills. Conditions will be in line with relevant award provisions and employment law.
