Lynford Farms is a large mixed enterprise aggregation that incorporates sustainable and ethical farming best practices to produce grain, superfine merino wool and prime lamb. The property is located near Williams in Western Australia’s South West and is just over an hours drive from the coastal cities of Bunbury and Mandurah.
Position
Reporting to the absentee farm owners, the incumbent will be “hands-on” with flexibility and independence in managing all day-to-day activities of the 20,000DSE merino enterprise.
The merino sheep enterprise joins 8,000 merino ewes to produce 17.5 micron wool and dual purpose flock ewes. The Manager will drive flock genetic improvement by managing a separate ASBV rated, merino ram nucleus flock.
As a key member of the leadership team, this role includes staff and contractor management, purchasing, record keeping, stock selection, animal husbandry, stock nutrition, and pasture management and development.
Key Responsibilities
Drive lamb turn off per ewe Ha
Manage scheduled animal husbandry using modern animal handling equipment
Plan and manage grazing rotations, feed budgets and confinement feeding
Monitor and implement pasture production
Liaise with consultants and organize contractors as required
General maintenance, service and repair of plant, pasture manipulation and fencing
Maintain records for RWS accreditation
Manage relevant purchases and sales
Assist with budgeting and annual planning
Take pride in the property and contribute to an enjoyable workplace culture
Skills and Experience
Experience in a senior role with a high rainfall, large-scale sheep enterprise
An understanding of, and experience in sheep breeding and genetics
Understanding of rotational grazing, confinement feeding and feed budgeting
Experience with pasture management, pasture renovation and fodder conservation
Understand the principles of Lifetime Ewe Management
Computer literacy with livestock EiD data collection and farm management software
Proven experience in a WHS workplace and staff leadership
An appreciation of land management, overall aesthetics, and sustainability
Experience with large seeding equipment is beneficial
Qualifications
Tertiary or post secondary qualifications in Agriculture or Farm Management highly regarded
Remuneration
A very attractive remuneration package will be negotiated to reflect skills and experience. Use of a well maintained 3x1 air-conditioned house and dual-cab farm ute is included.
