The Role

As a member of the Quality team, you will be accountable under limited direction to perform governance, assurance, auditing and corporate reporting activities including technical assessment and reviews on board a Submarine, in support of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and Technical Certification. You will have an understanding of the AS/NZS ISO 9001:2016 Quality Management System requirements and develop and maintain knowledge of relevant process, products and equipment which will be applied in a proactive audit and assurance program.

You will identify and define issues and report on non-conformances to ensure accuracy and effectiveness of internal processes. You will have strong verbal and written communication skills and be able to formalise your findings through clear and concise report writing and documentation.

This position is required to:

  • Have an understanding of the AS/NZS ISO 9001:2016 Quality Management requirements;
  • Perform moderately complex assurance activities with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Demonstrate the ability to interpret, collate, research and analyse information to conduct audits and reporting activities based on legislation, policy and procedures;

  • Be required to engage and communicate with stakeholders to identify, respond and provide advice on issues to achieve work unit and Defence outcomes;
  • Apply technical knowledge and experience, understand priorities to identify, define issues and implement corrective actions;
  • Conduct Quality Assurance activities on board a submarine, when required, which involves climbing stairs and ladders, and working in tight spaces;
  • Independently travel to and work at multiple work sites including HMAS Stirling, Rockingham WA and at supplier sites in Henderson, WA.

Whether you are beginning your career in Quality or bring extensive experience as a Quality Control Officer, we are seeking a capable, adaptable, and proactive problem-solver ready to thrive in a dynamic and rewarding role.

This role has been identified as requiring access to International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) controlled technologies. The ITAR is United States (US) law that controls the manufacture, sale, use and access of defence and military end-use articles on the United States Munitions List. It is the policy of the US to deny exports of ITAR controlled technologies to proscribed countries. This may also apply to access by persons who hold or have held a citizenship, or current permanent residency, of said countries. Defence utilises workforce mechanisms to mitigate these restrictions, which will require applicants provide details of all current citizenships and permanent residencies, as well as previously held citizenships. Defence collects citizenship details to confirm an applicant’s eligibility for the role and to maintain compliance with international obligations.
