Job Summary:
As the SMSF Audit Senior/Supervisor, you will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality SMSF audits within a boutique environment known for technical excellence and personal service. You will manage a portfolio of SMSF audits from planning to completion, while guiding a growing team and maintaining strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Audit Workflow Management
Lead and oversee the full SMSF audit process—from planning to finalisation—ensuring compliance with the SIS Act, ATO regulations, and auditing standards. - Technical File Review
Review audit files prepared by team members for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to regulatory and professional standards. - Client Liaison
Act as the primary point of contact for accounting firms and trustees, responding to queries, requesting documentation, and explaining audit outcomes in a clear, professional manner. - Team Leadership & Development
Supervise, coach, and mentor junior auditors, fostering a high-performance team culture and supporting ongoing technical development. - Risk & Compliance Oversight
Identify potential compliance breaches and SMSF risks, prepare appropriate audit opinions, and manage the preparation and lodgement of Auditor Contravention Reports (ACRs) where applicable. - Process Improvement
Contribute to the continuous improvement of audit methodologies, workflow systems, and quality control processes to ensure efficiency and consistency across engagements.
Required Skills & Experience
- A minimum of 7–8 years' experience in SMSF auditing with strong technical proficiency in superannuation compliance and audit standards.
- Exceptional attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to manage deadlines, priorities, and workflow across multiple engagements.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset suited to working in a boutique, client-focused setting.
