A family in Chelmer has 2 available support work roles assisting their 11-year-old son before and after school. He is a lively boy with a wonderful sense of humour who has Autism and primarily uses non-verbal and augmented communication. Always doing best when well prepared for the day, he thrives on routine and meaningful engagement with people. Both roles require someone committed and adaptable who will work closely with the family to support his growth and independence while ensuring he enjoys his daily life.
Role 1. Morning Support Role (female)
The family is seeking a dedicated and friendly female support worker to assist their 11-year-old son before school two mornings a week. Responsibilities include, helping him prepare for the day, helping with breakfasts and lunches, meal preparation and if he is comfortable and potentially school drop off. This role requires a minimum of 1-year experience in disability support work.
Shifts:
- Mornings - Wednesday, Thursday– 7am – 9am
* Due to the nature of the shifts, the preference is for applicants based locally (within 15 minutes drive)*
The Role:
- Providing prompting, guidance and emotional support to get ready for school and have a good start to the day
- Helping with breakfast, tidying the kitchen, making lunch, meal prep etc.
- Transport and drop off at his local primary school
Pay Rates:
- $45-$55 range
Role 2. Afternoon Support Role (male or female)
Active and energetic Support Worker required.
The family is seeking an energetic and friendly support worker to assist their 11-year-old son two afternoons a week. Responsibilities include picking him up from school and supporting him to engage in community activities that are goal focused and meaningful to him. This role requires a minimum of 2 years’ experience in disability support work and or a Certificate 3 in Individual Support.
Shifts: Mon and Thurs – 2.30-6.30pm
Afternoon Shifts:
- Picking up from school and coming home to unpack bag, have a snack and follow his afternoon routine
- Support to him participate in activities such as going for a walk, learning to ride a bike, attending physio appointments.
- Work with focus and attention on developing his skills and identifying opportunities for him to participate in and connect with his local community.
Pay Rates:
- $50-$65 range
Key Qualities:
- Experience supporting young people with autism at home and in the community
- Experience with non-verbal communication / alternative forms of communication
- Experience working in a family environment
- Willingness to learn what is needed and adapt to changes
- The ability to come to work focused and ready
- Confidence, patience, clear communication
- Enthusiasm about being part of a committed support team
Essential requirements:
- +1 years experience Disability support work (Role 1.)
- +2 years experience Disability support work and or a cert 3 in Individual Support or other relevant study (Role 2.)
- Open Driver’s license and own vehicle with insurance
- Located within 15 minutes drive of Chelmer
- ABN and Insurance
- Blue Card (Working with Children Card)
- NDIS Worker Screening/Yellow Card (or willing to obtain)
