About the role
Yarra Ranges Council is looking for a Museum Engagement Officer to develop and deliver programs that bring the Museum's collections and stories to life for diverse audiences. The award-winning Yarra Ranges Regional Museum is the custodian of significant cultural collections, including more than 14,000 cultural heritage items managed to international standards. With a new strategic direction, this position offers an ongoing, part-time opportunity to create innovative and impactful public and digital engagement programs.
As a member of the Creative Communities team, you’ll collaborate across teams and with local stakeholders to ensure the Museum is welcoming, inclusive, and relevant for current and future generations.
You will:
Create and deliver on-site programs including talks, tours, workshops, events, and self-guided activities;
Create and deliver engaging digital projects that interpret and share the Museum's collections and stories;
Support research, exhibition, and interpretation projects;
Craft compelling interpretation and marketing content;
Coordinate group tours and manage related administration;
Build and nurture relationships with historical and cultural groups, museums, libraries, archives, and community stakeholders;
Maintain effective systems for planning, evaluating, and reporting on public engagement.
Why you’ll love working with us
Permanent part-time role (0.5 FTE), 19 hours per week. Days and hours are:
- Wednesday 9:30am - 4:30pm
- Thursday 9:30am - 4:30pm
- Friday 9:30am - 4:00pm
Salary between $78,146 and $86,826 per annum (Band 5) pro-rata, plus superannuation.
20 weeks paid parental primary caregiver leave (6 weeks for secondary caregivers) plus other generous leave options such as family planning and menstrual and menopause leave.
Experience and skills we’re looking for
Knowledge and experience in collection engagement and interpretation in a public museum context;
Experience designing public and digital programs including project planning, implementation and evaluation;
Strong relationship-building and communication skills;
A collaborative mindset and a drive to innovate.
