Your new career
Our Facilities Management team is responsible for both routine and responsive maintenance of all Surf Coast Shire Council buildings and structures. We work to ensure these important community assets are safe, functional, and well-maintained so they can support the delivery of high-quality services across the region.

The portfolio of buildings includes:

  • Community centres and sports pavilions in Torquay, Anglesea, Winchelsea, Lorne, Deans Marsh, and more
  • Freshwater Creek and Gnarwarre Halls
  • Surf Coast Shire Early Childhood Centres and Kindergartens
  • Wurdi Baierr Stadium – soon to include the new Aquatic and Health Centre
  • Council Civic Centre and depots in Torquay and Winchelsea
  • New Winchelsea Swimming Pool
  • Public Toilets

What you will bring to the role
We are currently looking for a Facilities Maintenance Officer who takes pride in their work, has an eye for detail, and is motivated by keeping community spaces safe, clean, and welcoming. You’ll be someone who thrives on practical, hands-on tasks and values doing the job right the first time.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A strong sense of responsibility and commitment to maintaining safe and functional facilities for community use.
  • A proactive and practical mindset, with the ability to carry out a wide variety of general maintenance tasks with care and efficiency.
  • A collaborative and dependable approach to working alongside tradespeople, contractors, and other staff to achieve high-quality results.
  • A safety-first attitude, with an understanding of health and safety requirements and a willingness to follow processes to ensure safe work practices.

Key selection criteria
Mandatory qualifications, experience and requirements

  • A trade qualification in building, carpentry or similar, or minimum five years of relevant experience.
  • Competent oral and written skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people.
  • Demonstrated experience in undertaking building maintenance work.
  • Experience in liaising with trades
  • Current Victorian driver’s license.
  • A current Working With Children Check
  • You have the permanent right to live and work in Australia
  • Police Check results that are suitable for this position (will be arranged by Surf Coast Shire Council).
    A complete international criminal history check is required if the person has worked or lived overseas for any period of time OR a complete national criminal history check is required if the person has only ever worked in Australia.
