We are looking for a motivated individual ready to launch or grow their career in local government finance. Whether you're a recent graduate or on your way to becoming a certified CPA, our Finance Officer development pathway offers clearly defined stages—Entry, Intermediate, and Full Competency—to guide your progression in a supportive, high-performing team.
Entry-Level – Graduate Finance Officer
In this foundational role, you will:
Support core financial processes including reconciliations, budget preparation, and grant tracking.
Assist with monthly and quarterly reporting, ensuring financial data aligns with statutory requirements and Council policies.
Apply your working knowledge of Microsoft Office and gain experience with enterprise financial systems such as Technology One and Delta.
Show initiative and a commitment to learning through personal development.
Demonstrate the core behavioural competencies outlined in our position description.
This is a great opportunity for graduates looking to apply their education in a practical setting while building a solid understanding of public sector finance.
Intermediate Finance Officer
For those who have completed at least two core CPA subjects and are eager to step up, this stage provides the chance to:
Contribute more meaningfully to team goals and take on more complex financial tasks.
Work with advanced spreadsheets and generate XLOne reports from scratch.
Assist with operational budget preparation and provide basic variance analysis to support financial decision-making.
Offer insights and recommend minor process improvements to drive efficiency.
Begin participating in strategic conversations about financial performance and planning.
You’re not just developing technical skills—you’re becoming a valued member of the finance team.
Full Competency – Management Accountant
As a fully certified CPA, you'll be trusted to lead and advise. At this level, your responsibilities include:
Oversight of key financial transactions, including payroll and creditor payments.
Preparing and managing annual budgets and forecasts for departments of responsibility.
Delivering detailed variance analysis and strategic financial advice to senior managers and executive teams.
Driving continuous improvement initiatives and helping enhance Council’s financial practices.

This stage recognises you as a strategic partner and an integral contributor to Council’s financial sustainability.
