Role Overview
As the Senior Technical Officer you will be getting out on the ground and ensuring Council's roads, bridges, footpaths, and drainage assets are inspected thoroughly and maintained to a high standard. You will be responsible for identifying defects, assessing conditions, reporting findings, and contributing to the prioritisation of works across the region. With a strong focus on practical delivery, community responsiveness, and technical accuracy, this is a role where your work directly supports the safety and reliability of local infrastructure.

What You will Be Doing:
- Conduct regular inspections of infrastructure assets (e.g., roads, drainage, bridges, culverts, footpaths, kerbs).
- Identify, assess, and document asset defects and condition.
- Maintain accurate records in Council's asset management systems.
- Ensure inspections align with relevant standards (e.g. TMR, RMPC).
- Analyse inspection findings to prioritise maintenance and renewal works.
- Compile reports with recommendations for asset rehabilitation or replacement.
- Support the development of long-term asset management plans.
- Provide technical input into capital works planning and lifecycle costing.
- Assist with scheduling and planning of works based on asset priorities.
- Monitor progress against plans and adjust as required to meet operational targets.
- Respond to public enquiries, complaints, and service requests regarding asset condition or works.
- Collaborate closely with Engineers, Works Supervisors, and Technical Officers to deliver programs.
- Leading two Technical Officers, delegating and monitoring tasks to ensure quality outcomes
- Supporting compliance with TMR and RMPC standards, including planning and monitoring works
- Assisting with resource planning, budgeting, and contractor guidance
- Providing regular updates on progress and risks to senior stakeholders
- Ensure you and your team have a safety mindset and all work is completed following council safety requirements
What We're Looking For:
You're a civil infrastructure all-rounder who enjoys balancing time in the field with coordination, reporting, and stakeholder management. You understand how infrastructure asset condition impacts communities and are comfortable communicating technical matters with both internal teams and members of the public.
To thrive in this role, you'll have:
- Experience in engineering, civil construction, asset inspections, or infrastructure maintenance - ideally within Local Government and across roads, drainage, footpaths, culverts, kerbs
- Good knowledge of TMR standards and RMPC requirements or willingness to learn
- Proven leadership and supervisory capabilities
- Experience with asset management systems (desirable) and good computer skills
- Qualifications in engineering, civil construction, project management, or similar (desirable)
- A current C Class Driver's Licence and White Card
