A well-established not-for-profit organisation is seeking an experienced Principal Policy Officer to join their team in Perth. This role is being offered in a fixed-term, part-time (0.8FTE) or full-time arrangement until 31st March 2026 with the possibility of extension. Reporting to the Principal Policy & Strategy Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for providing high-level policy support and advice, and undertaking complex research and analysis in relation to policy matters.
Your new role
As the Principal Policy Officer, you will be responsible for providing high-level support and advice that will support the organisation's client portfolio. Your duties will include:
- Lead in providing strategic advice on policy matters at a state and national level priority
- Lead and manage various policy projects, ensuring successful development and completion
- Proactively establish and maintaining key stakeholder relationships, whilst identifying key policy issues and delivering quality advice
- Interpret, analyse, and review policy legislation and submissions
- Actively capture feedback around emerging themes and issues that may impact department engagement activities and initiatives
- Actively mentor and support the wider Policy and Strategy business unit as required
- Prepare concise and complex briefing notes, papers, submissions, reports, and presentations
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this role you will need:
- Extensive experience within a senior policy position, with significant knowledge and understanding of policies and legislation that may impact key priorities
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (community development, social science, public policy etc.)
- Advanced communication skills with confidence in delivering strategic advice to stakeholders and managing complex issues
- Ability to lead, direct and manage a team, as well as several policy-related projects
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to meet strict deadlines and manage competing priorities
- Advanced digital literacy skills with confidence navigating Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge and understanding of working within Aboriginal communities is highly desirable
