The Wajarri Yamaji Aboriginal Corporation (WYAC) is seeking a dedicated and culturally competent Future Acts Officer to join our team in Geraldton, WA. This is a rewarding opportunity to work in an organisation that is deeply committed to the social, cultural and economic advancement of the Wajarri Yamaji People.
About the Role
The Future Acts Officer plays a key role in ensuring WYAC meets its responsibilities under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) and other relevant legislation. This role will support the Corporation in managing future act matters and ensuring compliance with agreements, while also building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders and the Wajarri community.
Key Responsibilities
Provide strategic advice to the Heritage Services Manager on future act matters.
Support compliance processes, including the management of internal registers and governance reporting.
Process and respond to Future Act notifications and liaise with the National Native Title Tribunal (NNTT).
Maintain digital records and agreement documentation.
Attend meetings and consultations in Perth and the Gascoyne/Murchison region.
Promote cultural safety and uphold WYAC’s values in all interactions.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
A sound understanding of Aboriginal culture and heritage, with demonstrated experience engaging respectfully with Aboriginal people and communities.
Experience in future acts or similar roles, with knowledge of native title processes and the NNTT.
Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital platforms.
A current WA Driver’s License and ability to obtain a National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check.
(Desirable) Tertiary qualifications in law, legal studies, heritage or a related field.
