Hourly rate $93 p/h +super

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional with a strong background in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and policy development. Your expertise in navigating complex government environments and providing clear, insightful advice will be instrumental in guiding the port through a dynamic policy and planning landscape. The ideal candidate would have a strong track record in project management, stakeholder consultation, and policy formulation, who can guide internal teams on government processes, provide consultative support to senior leadership and develop strong relationships with government entities at all levels.

The Principal Public Policy Advisor is responsible for supporting the government relations manager in the day-to-day government and ministerial interactions of the port, providing timely advice on both one-off issues and longer-term initiatives underway.

Key duties include:

  • Provide advice on public policy and strategy and effectively liaise with the relevant external stakeholders to progress such policies.
  • Reviews state, commonwealth and local government policies impacting on Fremantle Ports and prepares advice and submissions as necessary.
  • Establishes and maintains strong relationships with relevant government agencies and local authorities (at all levels of government) to help facilitate and ensure effective planning by Fremantle Ports.
  • Reviews and advise on business cases to ensure consistency with corporate strategy.
  • Acts as an internal conduit and represents Fremantle Ports on relevant committees and working groups, and in industry discussions/negotiations.
  • Provides strategic input to port planning processes and activities within Fremantle Ports and ensures coordinated input from relevant areas across the organisation.
  • Prepares submissions to commonwealth, state and local government on strategies, policies, plans and proposed developments impacting on the activities of Fremantle Ports.

Qualifications and experience

  • An appropriate tertiary qualification.
  • Extensive experience in strategic planning.
  • Extensive public policy experience.
  • Engagement experience with government agencies, Minister’s offices and local authorities
  • Highly developed project management skills.
  • Highly developed presentation and communication skills.
  • High level conceptual and analytical skills.
  • Well-developed ability to manage staff, contractors and consultants.
  • High level negotiation and liaison skills.
