The Role

The Safety and Compliance Officer provides operational assistance to management and staff on Workplace Health and Safety and risk management issues, including interpretation and compliance with relevant acts, regulations, standards and codes of practice.

The Safety and Compliance Officer will partner closely with key stakeholders to support programs of work that enhance physical and psychological safety of all staff.

In the first instances, this position will be responsible for the effective implementation of the companies Business Management System while complying with ISO Certification and ensuring that the business remains on track, contributing to a robust approach to accountability and uplift in risk maturity.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide expert advice and practical support on WHS legislation, risk management practices, and industry standards.

Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the Business Management System (BMS) to align with ISO 45001, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 requirements.

Monitor and report on WHS compliance, internal audits, corrective actions, and incident investigations.

Partner with leadership and operational teams to develop and support safety and compliance programs that reduce risks and improve overall staff wellbeing.

Coordinate and participate in audits (internal and external), inspections, and WHS meetings.

Identify gaps, recommend solutions, and drive initiatives to uplift the company’s risk maturity and accountability framework.

Ensure training, induction, and competency records are maintained and aligned with compliance obligations.

Keep abreast of changes in legislation and update company policies and procedures as required.

Prepare and deliver clear reports, dashboards, and documentation to management and relevant stakeholders.

Skills and Experience:

Demonstrated experience in a similar WHS, compliance, or risk role, preferably in construction, civil, or high-risk industries

Strong knowledge of WHS Acts, Regulations, ISO Standards, and industry Codes of Practice

Experience implementing and maintaining management systems aligned with ISO Certification

Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Ability to identify risks, recommend practical solutions, and influence a safety-first culture

Competent in using compliance systems, document control platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite

Qualifications:

Certificate IV or Diploma in Work Health and Safety (essential)

Auditor qualifications (e.g., Lead Auditor in ISO 45001/9001/14001) (highly desirable)

Mental Health First Aid or training in psychological safety (desirable)

Current driver’s licence (essential)

White card (essential)
