South Pacific Seeds Pty Ltd was established in 1986, having been founded by a group of former Yates Seeds employees. From the outset, the company sought to specialise in servicing the Australian vegetable seed market as well as producing seed on a contract multiplication basis for a wide range of overseas seed companies. South Pacific Seeds achieved early rapid growth in both of its core business units. This came about by servicing the domestic market needs with varieties adapted for the local conditions supported by an ongoing extensive trialing program. At the same time, South Pacific Seeds extended its range of production crops grown and areas to cater for an increasing worldwide demand for quality seed production. South Pacific Seeds is now a leading world producer of a broad range of vegetable seed, spanning over four countries including New Zealand, USA and Chile.

South Pacific Seeds is looking for an Operations Manager to manage production to ensure seed is delivered, cleaned, dried and packaged to the company standard. The position is based in Naracoorte (South Australia) and offers an annual salary of $110,000 to $130,000.

The tasks of this role include the following:

Plan, organise and control the set up and organisation of a seed cleaning plant with due consideration of issues of seed quality & efficiency

Manage seed drying process with due consideration of seed quality

Manage operation of seed treatment equipment and associated plant

Manage staff to achieve optimum use of resources

Ensure the company WHS policy procedures are followed

Assume overall responsibility for the general maintenance of all the seed cleaning and warehouse equipment

Prepare seed for dispatch including bagging, bin packaging, labelling, pallet and container loading as required

Maintain the Naracoorte site to meet all AQIS requirements

Prepare seed for dispatch including bagging, bin packaging, labelling, pallet and container loading as required

Undertake other general warehousing duties as requested

Skills and experience required for the position:

Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry with Honours in Chemistry

Crop Protection Certificate

A minimum of 5 years of Seed Cleaning/Seed processing or Agricultural manufacturing experience

Outstanding attention to detail

Forklift License

Strong communication and literacy skills
