Tenure: 12 months Fixed-term, Full-time (with the possibility of extension or permanency)

Location: Exmouth, Western Australia

Exmouth is one of the few areas in Australia that can boast the Reef to Range experience. Adjacent the Cape Range National Park, the diving and snorkelling paradise of Ningaloo Marine Park attracts thousands of tourists every year.

We are currently seeking a District Coordinator Conservation to join our team.

Under the limited direction of the Operations Manager, the District Coordinator Conservation:

  • Identifies, develops, implements, reports and advises on conservation programs and operations as identified in relevant regional conservation service plans, management plans, wildlife management programs, interim management guidelines and other departmental programs including development proposals and fire operations.
  • Directs, coordinates, prepares and delivers wildlife conservation plans, threat abatement programs, area management plans and monitoring programs.
  • Provides expert advice on conservation and wildlife management matters.
  • Contributes to engagement with Traditional Owners as Joint Management partners in conservation matters.

Selection Criteria

  1. Considerable knowledge of, and experience in the delivery of nature conservation, and natural resource management, including planning and implementing works programs, planning, monitoring and reporting on activities, identifying threats and values and implementing measures to rehabilitate or recover those values.
  2. Evidence of highly developed interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in effective liaison and negotiation at a senior level), to achieve organisational objectives with external organisations, including local authorities, industry, other government agencies, stakeholders, Aboriginal groups, community interest groups and the media, with evidence of having responded to and resolved complex and detailed issues. Ability and willingness to work with Aboriginal people and having an awareness of culture.
  3. Demonstrated experience, knowledge and skills in leadership and human resource management skills and the management of staff and across programs, researchers, contractors and volunteers, including an ability to promote employee development, deal with contentious issues and improve performance management, empowering staff to achieve agreed outcomes.
  4. Demonstrated experience in, and knowledge of administrative and financial management including budget preparation, expenditure control within financial constraints and an ability to apply for external grant applications.
