The Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Governance Coordinator to join our Corporate and Community Services team. In this pivotal role, you will ensure that the Council's governance systems comply with the Local Government Act 1995, associated regulations, and other relevant legislation. You will provide expert governance advice, coordinate policy and governance activities, and oversee the implementation and monitoring of the Town’s Risk Management Framework.
Key Responsibilities:
In this dynamic role, you will lead the coordination and oversight of the Town's governance functions. Your responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, managing the development and review of Council policies and local laws, and maintaining statutory registers. You will also oversee the implementation and management of the Town's Risk Management Framework in line with AS ISO 31000:2018 and coordinate the preparation of reports for the Audit Committee, Council, and management. Additionally, you will undertake a leadership and liaison role in relation to Council elections.
About You:
The ideal candidate will possess experience in governance within the WA Local Government sector or a similar environment. You will have a strong understanding of relevant legislation and demonstrate high-level analytical skills with attention to detail. Your ability to interpret complex information, provide strategic advice, and prepare comprehensive reports will be essential. You will be a collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building effective relationships with a range of stakeholders. A commitment to professionalism, discretion and confidentiality is paramount.
Selection Criteria (Essential)
Extensive governance experience in WA Local Government (or equivalent) with working knowledge of relevant legislation.
High analytical skills with attention to detail interrogating data, reports, policies, legislation and compiling reports for management.
High problem solving, research and organisational skills to ensure the organisation is compliant with legislative reporting, risk management framework monitoring and policy review controls.
Demonstrated proficiency in preparing reports for Audit and Risk Committee.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated professionalism, discretion and commitment to privacy, security and confidentiality of information.
(Desirable)
Experience managing contracts register.
Experience with “Info Council”.
