About this role

The Personal Injury Commission's Legal and Policy Directorate is looking for a Legal Graduate to join its team! The Legal Graduate will be employed by the Department of Customer Service and will work in the Personal Injury Commission (Commission) which is an independent statutory tribunal.

About Us:

The Personal Injury Commission (Commission) resolves disputes between people injured in motor accidents and workplaces in NSW, insurers and employers.

The Commission is an independent statutory tribunal within the New South Wales justice system, committed to providing a transparent and independent dispute resolution service.

Resolving disputes justly and efficiently in the shortest time frame is a priority for the Commission. We work with all parties (injured persons, insurers, and employers, where relevant) to discuss ways of achieving this.

The Commission exercises functions in three divisions - the Motor Accidents Division, the Workers Compensation Division and the Police Officer Support Scheme Division. You can read more about the Commission here.

About you - You are:

  • A law graduate, who may or may not have a practising certificate;
  • Genuinely interested in courts and tribunals, the laws that govern them, and dispute resolution, including decision making, conciliation and mediation;
  • Keen to learn, curious about the world and collaborative by nature
  • Able to handle competing priorities with conflicting deadlines;
  • Able to deliver work with an attention to detail and accuracy, and
  • Seeking career development and guidance from great lawyers and managers.

Primary purpose of the role:

You will assist work across a range of tribunal related legal work in the Policy and Projects team of the Legal and Policy Directorate by providing support to senior solicitors through legal research, drafting legal advice, working on policy proposals, and providing junior project support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake legal research and analysis, and contribute to policy and legal advice development
  • Deliver (under supervision) the weekly publication of the Commission's Legal Bulletin
  • Assist the Managing Lawyer and senior solicitors in the delivery of their legal work and projects to support on-time delivery of services
  • Monitor and report on the delivery of projects to ensure milestones and deliverables of the Policy and Projects team are met
  • Undertake a range of litigation support responsibilities including assisting in the review of judicial review matters
  • Provide high quality administrative support to optimise efficiency and support delivery of quality outcomes for the team
  • Support a range of projects, policies and other program initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
