About the role
We are looking for a bright, motivated, client focused, experienced legal officer with minimum 3-5 years experience to work directly with two Partners in our Commercial/ Corporate/IP team.
The role plays a pivotal role in supporting and driving the delivery of high-quality legal services within the Commercial and Corporate team at Swaab. This multifaceted position is designed for a detail-oriented, confident professional with strong legal acumen across commercial law, corporate law, and intellectual property.
The role involves conducting comprehensive legal research, drafting and reviewing complex pleadings, affidavits, motions, and commercial agreements. You will also be involved in preparing expert legal advice, developing strategic briefs to counsel, and liaising effectively with clients and stakeholders—all in alignment with Swaab’s brand of service.
You will collaborate with supervising solicitors, actively participate in litigation strategy, and contribute to transactional matters. This role offers a unique opportunity to sharpen advocacy skills, deepen knowledge of legal practice, and thrive in a fast-paced, professional environment.
Effective communication is essential as you will be required to liaise with internal stakeholders, clients, counsel, and external parties to ensure high standards of service delivery.
In terms of client base, this role has a good mix, and will see you advising Australian and international clients, including both private and public companies, on a range of matters for a number of industry sectors.
Skills & Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have at least 3 years experience in a similar role and be technically competent in the area of commercial and IP law. It is important that you are a strong communicator, you pride yourself in your high attention to detail and you plan your time effectively to meet deadlines.
This position is suited to a proactive and detail-oriented legal professional who demonstrates sound knowledge of procedures and practices across relevant jurisdictions. The successful candidate will contribute to a diverse range of legal matters including commercial, corporate, and intellectual property law. With a strong foundation in legal research, drafting, and courtroom advocacy, this role offers a dynamic opportunity to develop and apply complex legal expertise.
An intermediate level of MS Office applications is essential and experience with use of Affinity practice management system and File Site Document Management would be highly regarded but not essential as full training will be given.
