  • Remuneration: $135,483 to $153,562 pa (HEW8) (inclusive of $114,485 to $129,761 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an Indigenous Australian Senior Student Success Coach to join Oodgeroo Unit, Indigenous Australians, Chancellery Division.

The Indigenous Australian Senior Student Success Coach, a member of the Oodgeroo Unit’s Leadership team, leads a high-achieving team to deliver cultural services and pastoral support programs that focus on the holistic wellbeing of students, encompassing their social, emotional and physical needs, and creating a safe and supportive environment that enables them to thrive. The position will demonstrate leadership and initiative while collaborating with various stakeholders, including colleagues, academic advisors, professional staff and external service providers to deliver integrated and effective pastoral and cultural programs and services that achieve Unit outcomes, and support QUT’s priority of fostering and celebrating Indigenous Australian excellence. The Indigenous Australian Senior Student Success Coach will oversee the execution of strategic projects and initiatives within the Oodgeroo Unit, including oversight of the development and implementation of the Cultural Empowerment Leadership Program.

Established in 1991, The Oodgeroo Unit is QUT's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student success unit, providing admission pathways and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The Oodgeroo Unit is responsible for and committed to ensuring pathways to higher education and the academic success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This includes;

  • assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to enter University
  • providing our students with academic, personal, and cultural support throughout their degree
  • providing a visible cultural presence at QUT
  • engaging in community events, representing QUT
  • promoting real world opportunities for our students.

Our main administration office is located at Gardens Point, with facilities at our Kelvin Grove student centre. On both campuses we have computer labs, places to study and work with tutors, and places to meet with other students.

All Oodgeroo Unit staff are required to work across both campuses. The Oodgeroo Unit is situated within the Indigenous Australians Portfolio within the Chancellery Division..

What you need to succeed

  1. Completion of postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications with relevant experience in education or social sciences and/or extensive experience within educational settings.
  2. Proven success working with Indigenous Australian peoples and their communities to meet cultural and learning needs, with a demonstrated ability to communicate complex issues sensitively and effectively.
  3. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a range of diverse stakeholders and in particular Indigenous Australian peoples and communities to positively engage and influence decision making.
  4. Demonstrated leadership and management skills that drive cohesion and high performance, with excellence in student centric service provision. This includes the ability to coach and mentor others.
  5. Proven outcomes and success in delivering high-quality, strategically driven and evidence-based service delivery in complex environments undergoing major growth and transformation, where significant judgement and sensitivity has been required.
