About us

Mookai Rosie Bi-Bayan, founded in the 1980s by Rose Richards ('Aunty Rosie'), is a leading health service provider dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from Cape York, NPA and Torres Strait Islander communities while in Cairns. Our Health Accommodation center is a welcoming and supportive accommodation facility for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children who are in Cairns for medical treatment. The facility can house up to 24 women and 12 children, providing a safe and comfortable environment.

About the role

The Senior Indigenous Health Practitioner, will provide culturally appropriate primary health care to clients, ensuring their holistic wellbeing through comprehensive assessment, care planning, and case management. This role involves close collaboration with Maternal Health, Mookai Family Health, and social and emotional wellbeing (S&EW) program staff to address clients' needs effectively.

Note - These positions may be required to work day, night and weekends shifts.

Candidate selection criteria

Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice and current registration with AHPRA registration.

Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to complete.

Minimum four (4) years’ experience working within the primary health care industry, preferably, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander comprehensive primary health care within rural and remote communities.

Experience providing health and other education to assist and support clients in the diagnosis, treatment and management of their health.

Intermediate knowledge and skills in computer-based programs such as Microsoft Office, Best Practice and MIMASO.

Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain partnerships and networks with external agencies, health professionals, and community organisations to support client primary healthcare needs and ensure strong referral pathways.

Demonstrated ability providing professional leadership and mentoring to other health practitioners, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners and Health Workers/Care Workers.

Current Queensland Drivers Licence.

Your benefits

Work hours will vary depending on contract, client and organisation needs. Day shifts - 8.00am to 4.30pm and night shifts 4.00pm to 10.00pm (sleepover required). Weekend shifts are also available.

Rewarding salary range - $95,900.42 - $103,947.52 per annum (plus shift allowances, if applicable).

Salary sacrifice of up to $15,900

12% superannuation contributions

4 weeks annual leave and 17.5% leave loading
