About Us?
The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
IUIH’s Birthing and Early Childhood Services (BECS) aim to support women, infants and families, from preconception and early pregnancy through to early childhood (up to three years of age), to enhance family functioning and promote childhood development and parental wellbeing. Within BECS is the Birthing in Our Community (BiOC) service, the Australian Family Partnership Program (AFPP), and the Deadly Fit Mums exercise program. These services and programs operate on both the north and south sides of Brisbane, with hubs at Strathpine and Salisbury.
About the Role?
The purpose of this position is to lead a team of family Support Practitioners offering care to women birthing at the Mater Hospital and participating in the delivery of family support services to a small caseload of women that are considered to have higher needs or require more complex management. The Family Support Practitioner Team Leader will also participate in the provision of cultural mentoring and support to the non-Indigenous members of the BiOC team.
- Lead the family support practitioner team to provide quality, value-added services to women in accordance with community needs
- Assist with creating a pathway for culturally respectful engagement between women, midwives, and other service providers
- Support and manage Family Support Practitioners with a caseload of women ensuring regular contact and follow up to ensure priorities and action are met in conjunction with other team members
- Collaborate with Midwives, Child Health Nurse, GP and Social health team to ensure client needs are being met
- Lead and support Family Support Practitioners support mothers with the logistical challenges of attending appointments through ensuring transport needs are met, and education is provided regarding the purpose and importance of attending the appointment
- Establish strong working relationships with clients, their families, industry professionals, relevant Government Departments and agencies and members of the community

- Current Blue Card
- Current Criminal History Check
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld)
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Current CPR Certificate
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities
