About Us
Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.

About the Opportunity

The Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner (ATSI) position is to deliver direct and comprehensive primary health care services, consistent with the Apunipima Way and Model of Care. This position acts as a role model in the provision of holistic care and provides general clinical advice, as part of a multidisciplinary team to improve health outcomes for the people of Cape York.

There is a genuine occupational requirement under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), for this position to be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. The position is therefore only open to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants.

About You
To be successful in this role you must have:

Demonstrated experience and competency as a Health Practitioner within a clinical practice environment, with a sound understanding of integrated client care in a multidisciplinary team.

Demonstrated experience working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team to facilitate a quality comprehensive primary health care service.

Demonstrated experience performing clinical and health education in a primary health care setting.

Demonstrated ability to support the development of health workers and less experience Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners.

Ability to apply a high level of professional judgement, knowledge and skills in the delivery of clinical care.

Advanced interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with a wide range of clients with diverse needs.

Organisation skills, including the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.

Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal /or Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York.

Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with community protocols and customs.

Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community control.

Must be willing and have the ability to travel in Cape York either by light aircraft or 4WD as required.

Mandatory Requirements:

Certificate IV or Diploma in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice.

A minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Health Worker.

Current Health Practitioner registration with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Australian Federal Police Check, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement.

Current Queensland Drivers Licence.

Current Blue Card positive notice or exemption, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement.
