About the role
Be part of a team shaping Melbourne’s future in the Strategy, Planning and Climate Change Division, where strategic thinking, analysis, and collaboration drive real change.
The City Resilience Project Officer plays a key role in supporting the delivery of impactful climate adaptation and resilience initiatives, particularly those that strengthen community preparedness for disasters and extreme weather.
This role involves research, administrative support, community engagement, stakeholder management and written, verbal and visual communication.
A little more about the role
This position will deliver programs and initiatives that will help communities to build resilience to prepare for floods, droughts, heatwaves and other shocks and stressors that impact the municipality. This includes engagement initiatives to reach more people in our community, and delivering programs that reach vulnerable groups and improve their capacity to respond to extreme weather events and other disasters.
Project support:
• Support project delivery, including contract management and representing the team at project meetings.
• Develop written and visual communication materials for a range of audiences, including writing reports, developing presentations and maintaining the City of Melbourne’s Prepared Communities webpage.
• Researching best practice in building community resilience, with responsibility for maintaining an internal repository of materials and sharing insights with stakeholders.
Stakeholder engagement:
• The City Resilience Project Officer is required to liaise with City of Melbourne staff at officer level, in particular, contributing to project teams and working groups and providing advice on city resilience approaches In addition, The City Resilience Project Officer will be required to support senior staff in building relationships and partnerships to deliver outcomes for the Climate Change and City Resilience Branch.

About you
With a passion for climate action and a collaborative approach, you bring insight, initiative, and purpose to every project. As City Resilience Project Officer, you’re passionate about working closely with people, and strengthening community readiness to disasters and extreme weather.
What your experience might look like
Appropriate tertiary qualification in environment, sustainability, urban design, public policy or science or equivalent level of experience.
Sound understanding of resilience and behaviour change principles
Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills
High level research, organisation and data management skills.
