Your new role

As the Assistant Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting the Finance Manager with a range of accounting functions. Your responsibilities will include processing general ledger transactions, reconciling bank accounts, preparing financial reports, and assisting with month-end and quarter-end reporting. You will also liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders to ensure accurate financial operations across the College, including support for payroll, accounts payable, and receivable functions.

Key duties include:

• Processing general ledger transactions and assisting with reconciliations and journal entries.
• Managing daily bank reconciliations and recording payments from various sources.
• Supporting financial reporting for college funds and foundations.
• Handling commercial debtor invoicing, event refunds, and contractor superannuation.
• Maintaining financial systems, including credit card registers, toll tags, and fuel cards.
• Providing backup support across the Finance Department and assisting with college events.

What you'll need to succeed

To thrive in this role, you will bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting or equivalent experience.
• A solid understanding of accounting best practices.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Office 365, and ideally TASS or similar systems.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• A proactive, customer-focused approach and the ability to self-manage tasks.
