About The Opportunity
Join Western Sydney University at our Goulburn campus and help shape the next generation of police professionals through teaching, research, and industry engagement.
Based in the School of Social Sciences, this exciting opportunity involves research, teaching and subject development in the undergraduate policing program, delivered to both internal and distance education students aspiring to join the NSW Police Force.
As part of the Applied Policing academic team, you’ll deliver integrated curriculum (excluding officer safety, weapons, and driver training), with scope to specialise in areas such as operational policing, criminal law, investigations, ethics, leadership, or community policing.
In this role, you’ll apply contemporary teaching methods and digital tools to deliver high-quality, student-centred education across both face-to-face and online platforms. You’ll also contribute to curriculum design, peer review processes, and research aligned with modern policing. Industry engagement is a key component, with strong connections to community safety partners helping ensure the course remains practical, relevant, and impactful.
This is a full-time ongoing role based at our Goulburn campus and delivered in partnership with the NSW Police Academy.

Location
This position is based at the NSW Police Academy in Goulburn, however travel to other campuses of Western Sydney University may be required.
About You
You hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Policing, Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related field, with demonstrated experience in innovative and engaging tertiary-level teaching. You’ll also bring a proven research track record, including relevant publications and success in research grant proposals.
With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you thrive in a team-based environment and are committed to building strong professional networks across academia and industry. Your real-world policing experience and subject matter expertise will bring valuable depth to your teaching and student engagement.

Remuneration Package:
- Academic Level C - $173,950 to $199,541 p.a. (comprising base salary of $147,138 to $169,011 p.a., plus 17% Superannuation and Leave Loading)
Pre-Employment Requirements
Successful applicants will be required to:
- Complete and obtain approval via the NSW Police Force Professional Suitability Application Form, and
- Obtain and maintain a Baseline National Security Clearance, as required by the NSW Police Academy.
These are mandatory conditions to be considered for this role, as required by the NSW Police Force.
