The Swan Christian Education Association (SCEA) was first established in 1982 and currently operates seven Schools across the Perth metropolitan area. Across our network of Schools, we strive to value and empower every student to become all God created them to be. Today, SCEA is a not-for-profit association with more than 5000 students, 900 staff, with a head office located in Midland.

This is a newly created role, and we are seeking for an experienced Finance Business Partner or an Accountant looking for a step-up into this role. This is a permanent full-time role based in Midland with regular on-site engagement at seven different school.

As a Finance Business Partner, you will play a vital role in strengthening the financial health and operational decision making of SCEA Schools by delivering high quality financial and management accounting services including reporting, budgeting, forecasting, analysis, and advisory support. As part of the Head Office Finance Team, the role partners closely with School Principals, Business and Corporate Services Managers, School Leadership Teams, and Head Office staff to provide strategic and operational financial support, driving informed and sustainable decisions aligned with SCEA’s vision, mission, and virtues. In addition to providing School-based support, the Finance Business Partner is responsible for assisting the Financial Controller with key financial and management accounting activities at the Head Office level. The position will also support the Financial Controller in ensuring compliance, effective internal controls and probity, and continuous improvement initiatives across the Association.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Build strong and collaborative relationships with School Principals, Business and Corporate Services Managers, School Leadership Teams, and Head Office staff through regular, on-site engagement at Schools.
  • Support Head Office financial and management accounting activities including the review, submission, and/or payment of Payroll, Accounts Payable runs and special payments, Business Activity Statements, and Fringe Benefits Tax returns.
  • Provide high level transactional support in the posting of accruals and complex accounting treatments in line with changing accounting standards.
  • Support the Financial Controller and Chief Financial Officer in the annual budget process across SCEA in collaboration with Schools.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial reports and dashboards to Schools and their Leadership Teams.
  • Analyse financial performance against budgets and strategic KPIs, highlighting risks and opportunities.

  • Strong personal commitment to SCEA's vision, mission, and the CHARIS virtues of Courage, Humility, Appreciation, Respect, Integrity, and Self-Control.
  • Tertiary qualification (bachelor's degree or higher) in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • CA/CPA qualification (or working towards).
  • Demonstrated experience in financial and management accounting including planning, reporting, and analysis, preferably within education or not-for-profit sectors.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as a Finance Business Partner, building strong and collaborative relationships founded on trust, respect, and delivering value.
  • Strong understanding of accounting standards, budgeting processes, and financial compliance requirements.
  • High level analytical, problem-solving, and financial modelling skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex financial data for non-financial users.
  • Proficiency in the Association’s financial systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as a Finance Business Partner, building strong and collaborative relationships founded on trust, respect, and delivering value.
