18 month project based assignment Design Manager – B-Shed Upgrade
We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead and coordinate the design delivery and change management for the transformational B-Shed Upgrade Project – a critical initiative to activate the iconic Victoria Quay precinct and enhance the visitor experience to Rottnest Island.
This high-profile role will see you managing a complex, multi-faceted infrastructure upgrade, including building renovations, terminal extensions, and public realm improvements at O’Connor Landing. The project is fully funded, with reference designs already completed, and forms part of the ports’ long-term strategic vision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design delivery process within the ports Project Management Framework.
- Manage third-party design consultants and internal subject matter experts to ensure project requirements are met.
- Oversee the design and asset transition of new and existing infrastructure aligned with the approved business case.
- Provide technical assurance that all designs meet statutory requirements and national standards.
- Manage design-related site investigations and ensure integration with downstream project delivery activities.
- Oversee design change management, RFIs, NCRs, and value engineering processes.
- Coordinate design approvals for planning, heritage, and building compliance.
About You:
- 10+ years' experience in design management of building or public transport infrastructure projects.
- Chartered Engineer (or eligible), with engineering registration in WA (or working toward it by 2026–27 deadlines).
- Strong background in project engineering, tender scope development, and stakeholder management.
- Experience in complex brownfield environments and delivering fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Proficient in managing design reviews, compliance assurance, and working across cross-functional teams.
- Deep knowledge of engineering standards, building codes, and public transport infrastructure requirements.
