Our client is seeking a Design Manager who will be responsible for managing the design delivery, and design change management of the B-Shed upgrade works.

The role is a project assignment and will support the successful delivery of a transformational asset investment that is essential for the Activation of the Victoria Quay precinct as a destination and to improve the experience for visitors to Rottnest Island.

Key duties include:

• Engaging with subject matter experts across the business and manage a third party contracted design consultant to ensure that the business requirements for the project have been successfully delivered.
• Supporting and managing the design and transition to asset management of the new and existing assets associated with the B-Shed upgrade program of works following the approved business case.
• The funding for this project has been allocated and reference designs already complete.
• The project includes building upgrades, fit out, an extension / duplication of the ferry terminal at O’Connor landing associated with B-Shed and represents a significant Victoria Quay asset investment.
• Providing technical assurance to ensure that all design is performed in accordance with relevant legislation to ensure that delivered assets are safe to operate, maintain and comply with statutory requirements and national standards
• Supervising and engaging appropriate project delivery resources to support any design site investigations required to deliver the design scope.
• Managing the technical interface with the design consultant from refence design (included in the business case) through any value engineering, and detailed design, followed by supporting the delivery phase including managing RFI responses, additional design support, and dispositioning of NCR’s.
• Managing (through the design consultant) the completion of all approvals and supporting assessment, such as planning, heritage, and building compliance.
• Managing (through the design consultant) delivery of design within agreed project milestones.

The role reports directly to the Civil Engineering Manager and does not have any direct reports.

Qualifications:

• Extensive Building or public transport works design management, minimum 10 years in a relevant role/s.
• Professional Engineering Services Delivery, Project Engineering/Project Management experience.
• Chartered Engineer, or eligible for Chartered Engineer registration.
• Eligible for registration and working towards being registered in WA for building services on or before the date for mandatory registration (1 July 2026 Structural or Fire safety, 1 July 2027 Civil or mechanical) at the level of Professional and in the discipline of engineering relevant to the applicant’s experience.
• Experience in the development of Fit for Purpose solutions in a complex brownfield’s operational environment.
• Experience in writing tender scopes of work for Engineering Services and related scopes for Delivery of Projects.
• Experience in managing owners team design reviews including stakeholder inputs from relevant external stakeholders, discipline engineers, asset management specialists, operations, maintenance, risk and HSEQ subject matter experts to ensure that objectives will be met.
• Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• Detailed knowledge of statutory requirements, regulation and national standards associated with buildings, public transport, ferry terminal maritime infrastructure.
• Detailed knowledge of engineering standards and industry best practice and guidelines
