Northern Chinese Kitchen is seeking a skilled and reliable Chef to join our dynamic kitchen team. We specialise in authentic Northern Chinese cuisine, including hand-made dumplings, cold appetisers, classic stir-fry dishes, and and in-house prepared marinades and sauces. The ideal candidate will have a passion for traditional Chinese food and experience working in a busy commercial kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Prepare and cook a variety of Northern Chinese dishes, including handmade dumplings, cold appetizers, and stir-fried specialties, following established recipes and presentation standards.

Operate wok stations, steamers, and other kitchen equipment to produce dishes like Cumin Lamb, Twice-Cooked Pork, and Hot & Sour Soup.

Assist in the preparation of ingredients, such as marinating meats, slicing vegetables, and mixing sauces, to ensure readiness for service.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen workspace, adhering to health and safety regulations.

Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and notify the kitchen manager of any shortages or needs.

Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure timely and efficient service during peak hours.

Participate in the development and testing of new menu items, providing input on flavor profiles and presentation.

Train and mentor junior kitchen staff, sharing knowledge of cooking techniques and kitchen operations.

Ensure proper storage and labeling of food items to maintain freshness and prevent cross-contamination.

Assist in the preparation of special orders and accommodate customer dietary requirements as needed.

Requirements:

Minimum of 1 year relevant experience in a commercial kitchen.

Formal qualification in Commercial Cookery.

Proficiency in Northern Chinese cooking techniques, such as wok stir-frying, steaming, and braising.

Strong understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.

Ability to work efficiently under pressure and as part of a team.
