About the Role
We are seeking a capable and detail-driven Accountant to join our team. Working directly with partners and senior accountants, this role is pivotal in supporting both day-to-day operations and broader strategic objectives, offering hands-on involvement in all accounting aspects of the business. You’ll also liaise closely with the senior leadership team, aligning financial strategies with company-wide goals and driving improvements to systems and processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Tax Compliance
· Prepare and File Tax Returns: Ensure all local, state, and federal tax returns (including income, sales, and payroll taxes) are filed accurately and on time.
· Monitor Deadlines: Keep track of important filing deadlines and ensure timely submission to avoid penalties.
· Maintain Accurate Records: Maintain thorough records of financial transactions and supporting documents to back up tax filings.
· Preparation of business activity statements, annual TPAR and STP lodgments
2. Tax Planning and Strategy
· Tax Strategy Development: Provide recommendations to senior staff on possible advice for clients on tax-saving strategies and methods to minimize tax liabilities.
· Research Tax Law Changes: Stay updated on tax law changes to provide informed recommendations and guidance to senior staff.
· Identify Tax Opportunities: Look for opportunities to optimize deductions, credits, and other tax-saving mechanisms and present to senior staff.
3. Financial Reporting
· Prepare Financial Statements: Work closely with senior accountants to ensure that financial statements reflect accurate tax information.
· Reconcile Accounts: Reconcile tax-related accounts, including deferred taxes and tax liabilities.
About You
· A Bachelor’s in Accounting or similar
· Minimum 1 year experience in a similar accounting role with background in taxation
· Strong skills in Excel and financial reporting; Xero experience desirable
· Excellent communication skills and a proactive, self-motivated work style
