Are you an outgoing and strategic storyteller looking to make an impact in the Northern Territory? The NT Department of Education and Training is now looking for an Assistant Director Media to provide high level advice, guidance and leadership across all areas of media management.
This is an ideal role for anyone with a strong communications, media or journalism background. Working closely with a supportive and accessible executive and communications team, you will have the opportunity to make a real impact as you guide the department’s media strategy and make the most of opportunities to share great stories of teaching, training and educational success.
Adventure, discovery and growth is at the heart of this role. You will have the chance to craft media responses, advise and mentor executives, find and share the many great stories of teacher and student achievements, and drive a variety of media campaigns.
In this role you’ll:
Provide strategic media and communication leadership and management across a diverse agency, in accordance with NT Government policies and strategies.
Lead and develop the implementation of a media and public affairs strategy, ensuring communication of consistent and accurate messages to all stakeholders via media and digital channels.
Provide high-level client focused service in writing media releases, interview preparation, coordinating media conferences, events, launches, and supervise other media activities undertaken by the department.
Liaise with department executives, managers and staff, ministerial officers and external stakeholders in developing and distributing media materials such as media briefs, releases, responses, editorials and communication materials.
Build and maintain effective professional relationships across the agency, government and industry, proactively assisting and anticipating client needs to deliver best practice media management and improve stakeholder engagement.
Lead a small team and act as the first point of contact for all media enquiries, including the ability to work outside of normal working hours and participate in a 24/7 on call roster.
About you:
Proven expertise in leading responsive and proactive media management in a high-pressure, diverse and multi-stakeholder environment, with demonstrated investigative, analysis and advisory skills.
Proven ability to advise on strategic matters, including providing objective and clear advice to senior management.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with integrity to support the agency’s priorities, managing multiple and competing deadlines, identify risks, opportunities and anticipate client needs.
Demonstrated expertise in driving the delivery of contemporary media strategies with customer service at front of mind.
Advanced oral and written communication skills, including proof-reading, editing, with the ability to think creatively and translate technical language to plain English, for diverse audiences, channels and publication needs.
A comprehensive knowledge of and experience in utilising a broad range of media management tools including establishing media events, leading and developing forecasts and completing reporting requirements.
Ability to manage public information functions and respond to crisis or emergency situations.
Current working knowledge of the local media landscape, with strong working relationships and networks with media outlets.
