Help manage and protect one of NSW’s most valuable land networks

When graziers move stock around the state, they rely on a network of Crown land parcels known as Travelling Stock Reserves (TSRs). These reserves and stock routes provide critical corridors, connecting watering points across NSW—generally every 10–20 km apart for a day’s walk by sheep or cattle.

Local Land Services manages around 30% of NSW’s TSR network—about 530,000 hectares of land that supports sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and local communities.

About the Role

As a Travelling Stock Reserves Ranger (LSO), you’ll deliver on-the-ground services, projects and activities to care for and manage TSRs in the Central West region.

Your work will include:

  • Planning and issuing permits for grazing, walking stock and other uses
  • Monitoring compliance and undertaking regulatory duties
  • Planning and implementing on-ground management activities such as:
  • Maintaining and upgrading infrastructure (e.g. fencing, water points)
  • Managing weeds and pests

You’ll also work with contractors and Senior Field Officers to get projects delivered effectively.

About You

We’re looking for someone with a genuine passion for land management who understands rural issues, livestock, plant health, and sustainable management of TSRs.

You will:

  • Be confident in planning and delivering on-ground projects
  • Have experience managing contractors and liaising with landholders, drovers, clients and stakeholders
  • Be self-motivated, capable of working independently, and a strong team contributor
  • Have good computer skills to meet reporting requirements

Essential requirements:

  • Current NSW Driver Licence
  • Capacity and willingness to undertake 4WD training
  • Appropriate qualifications and knowledge for pesticide application

Why work for us?

  • You’ll work on projects and programs which are focused on protecting, enhancing and maintaining travelling stock reserves.
  • You’ll become part of an amazing, experienced, professional & friendly team
  • You’ll be working for an organisation whose flexible work environment allows you to better manage your lifestyle and work commitments.
  • We are passionate about what we do, and if you share the same vision and drive, we want to work with you!

Got what it takes to make this role a success? Simply submit your resume and a cover letter telling us why this is the job for you. We will then get back in touch after the closing date with the next steps.

Closing Date: 11:55pm on Sunday 27th July 2025
